From Detroit with no stops:

I-94 eastbound to Blue water Bridge to Canada. Canadian Hwy. 402 to 401. Follow eastbound to Hwy 407.  Take 407 north or east around Toronto. Exit 407 at Hwy 400 North. Follow 1 hour to Hwy 69 North toward Parry Sound. 30 minutes past Parry Sound to Pointe Au Baril Ontario. Left on North Shore Road 500 yards to Desmasdons Marina. (Desmasdons 705-366-2581 or 705-366-2722 fax to 705-366-2716) The Island is a 20 minute, 6 mile boat ride from this point.

From Detroit thru Toronto: Not recommended unless staying in Toronto for fun

From Detroit with an overnight stop:

Same directions except 40 minutes north of Toronto, or 30 minutes after the exit from Hyw 407 to Highway 400. In Barrie Ontario, is the Travelodge. Phone ahead as far in advance as possible for reservations at 705-722-4466. Exit 98, Bayfield, in Barrie. The Island is 100 miles, 2 hours from this point.

Mission Statement

All visiting adults are expected to stop at the duty free store and bring to the Island, the amount alcohol permitted by customs. This is 1 bottle of wine, one bottle of hard liquor or one case of beer per adult. Normally you will be asked to bring something specific. You are free to buy whatever you like if NOT asked to buy something specific. In either case please remember one very important thing:

THE DUTY FREE STORE IS LOCATED PAST THE ENTRANCE TO THE BRIDGE. DO NOT EXIT AT THE BRIDGE EXIT. GO PAST AND FOLLOW THE SIGNS
